Your Beaverton Update for June 9, 2022

Here is what happened with the city this week, and what to expect in the week to come.  

City Council 

Mayor Beaty proclaimed June 19, 2022 as Juneteenth, June 20, 2022 as World Refugee Day, and the month of June 2022 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and Immigrant Heritage Month.

The next presentation as part of the Council’s Housing Talk Series focused on preservation and displacement prevention. A panel of experts shared challenges, strategies, and opportunities for making our community inclusive for all. Financing, sustainability, and emergency rent topics were mentioned as part of the measures available to community members.

A public hearing to adopt updated fees for building, planning, and site development permits occurred, as well as an ordinance reading for a public hearing on June 21, 2022 to amend the Beaverton Comprehensive Plan to incorporate the 2021 Beaverton School District long-range facility plan and adopt other minor revisions.

Recommendations from the Social Services Funding Committee (SSFC) were approved, providing more than $300,000 to 23 organizations focused on homelessness, housing, afterschool care, education and health programming. In addition, a Council work session on the nonprofit incubator project occurred to outline choices for an innovative concept to support and fund local nonprofits in Beaverton.

Opportunities to get involved 

See how you can get involved in your community and come to the annual Volunteer Fair this weekend at the Beaverton City Library!  

You still have time to share your thoughts on what the city’s future should look like. Take the Vision survey – responses help city officials decide on action items for the next ten years.  

Sewer and stormwater rates are expected to increase, starting this summer. A virtual public meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 21, to review and adopt the rate increases. Learn more about why and how you can participate in the public hearing.
