New Economic Empowerment Programming

The city’s Community Services Program is partnering with Centro Cultural of Washington County’s Centro de Prosperidad to launch an Economic Empowerment Pilot Program. Economic Empowerment is a priority area in the city’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan and this program directly addresses goals on supporting the economic needs of low-income individuals and families with the goal of reducing the wealth gap.

Centro de Prosperidad is a community center that commits to the economic empowerment of Oregon’s diverse communities and builds on the rich history of Centro’s people-centered programs and services. This service offers bilingual and culturally specific support to low-income individuals through a robust range of programs that enhance education, build wealth, and facilitate living-wage career attainment and retention.

Empowerment services begin with meeting with a career coach to visualize the many potential paths ahead. Is starting a small business the best way to maximize your skills? Are you unemployed and need a quick job to pay upcoming bills? Do you feel like you’re ready to leap into a career, but don’t know where to start? Do you need support receiving a certification, like completing your GED or learning a new technical manufacturing skill, to earn more?

To access these services, contact Centro de Prosperidad at 503-336-9895 or prosperidad@centrocultural.org.
