Your Beaverton Update for November 4, 2021

Here is your update on what has happened with the City of Beaverton this week, and a preview of what to look for in the next week to come.

City Council

Metro Councilors Juan Carlos Gonzalez and Gerritt Rosenthal shared an update on regional activities like supportive housing services, affordable housing, parks and nature funding, and garbage, recycling and career programs. View presentation https://bvtn.info/3nYwUSu

Mayor Beaty proclaimed November 2021 as Family Court Awareness Month and Native American Heritage Month, and welcomed a guest presentation before proclaiming November 4, 2021 as Festival of Diwali in Beaverton.

A contract with Just Compassion of East Washington County to operate the Beaverton Winter Shelter was approved. The shelter will open Monday, Nov. 15 and run through at least March 15, 2022 at the Beaverton Community Center.

The Council held a work session to discuss criteria for the location of a permanent shelter within Beaverton. Access to transit, employment and social services, as well as engagement opportunities were considered. Watch discussion https://bvtn.info/3BGykGf

The City Council also continued discussion on Beaverton’s allocation of $16.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 funds. Priorities and goals were confirmed, as well as allocations for near and longer-term projects. Watch discussion https://bvtn.info/3komElV
