Reduce waste this holiday season with some creative packaging and gift giving.
Reduce packaging
■ Use reusable: cookie tins, gift bags and boxes, 2 for 1 – wrap gifts in a blanket or kitchen towel.
■ Buy recycled-content gift wrap. Use comics or old maps to wrap with.
Avoid wasted food
Wasting food is a common problem over the holidays. Here are some tips to help you out.
■ Create a meal plan and shopping list, and then stick to it. Add a leftovers day or “flex” day to allow space for eating out.
Freeze the leftovers. Check out http://www.SaveTheFood.com for storage and freezing tips.
■ Get creative with leftovers. Leftover mashed potatoes can become breakfast potato cakes. The options are nearly endless.
