The Public Safety Center plaza has been named Unity Square. The name, chosen by City Council at its Jul. 13 meeting, was selected from a narrowed list of options nominated by a naming committee made up of community volunteers. The group met several times since spring to review names submitted by community members. More than 150 name suggestions were received.
The committee went through a process of elimination with thoughtful research to come up with neutral options representative submitted by community members. More than 150 name suggestions were received.
The final decision was based on a desire from the City Council for an aspirational name that will help drive work to be done and guide efforts for a more unite Beaverton in the future. Unity Square recognizes the city’s goals for our community to come together.
A public unveiling of the name and plaza dedication will occur later this year.
