Greener Cleaners — Simple Tips for a Safer Home 

Many household cleaners contain harmful toxins. Some of these toxins are allergy and asthma triggers and can lead to decreased air quality inside your home. Most cleaning projects can be handled by simple, everyday ingredients like vinegar, baking soda and soap. Check out these recipes for some ideas. 

All-Purpose Cleaner  

  • 1/4 cup white distilled vinegar  
  • 1/2 teaspoon liquid soap  
  • 3/4 cup warm water  

Shake to blend Combine all the above ingredients into a spray bottle; remember to shake well. 

Tub and Tile Cleaner 

  • 1 2/3 cups baking soda  
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil-based liquid soap (castile soap, often found in the natural products area)  
  • 1/2 cup water  
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar  
  • A few drops essential oil (optional)  

Mix soda and soap in a small container. Add water and vinegar, and mix. Apply with sponge or cloth. Rinse to avoid leaving a residue. This cleaner works best when used the same day it’s made.
