Downtown Parking Plan Focuses on Sustainability, Equity

Addressing the parking management needs in the growing downtown core is important and complex. The Downtown Parking Management and Action Plan (DPMAP) aims to identify parking policies, procedures, and management strategies necessary to better understand and respond to these current and future needs.

The project is based on four guiding principles that are consistent with city goals and part of adopted and active studies. DPMAP’s parking strategies strive to be:

Sustainable – Aligned with the city’s environmental sustainability goals

Equitable – Develop a parking system that accommodates users with diverse needs

Adaptable – Responsive to changes in development

Positive – Focused on ease of use and customer service to foster a positive parking experience

The DPMAP is an active project and encourages the implementation of identified policies, projects, and strategies as soon as they are appropriate. Being able to implement these items based on data collection, community engagement, and overlapping project timelines, allows the city to be more responsive to the community’s needs. Currently, community engagement and data collection efforts are in full swing. A draft plan is anticipated for the end of summer with a final plan in early fall.
