Your Beaverton Update for February 11, 2021

Here is your update on what has happened with the City of Beaverton this week, and a preview of what to look for in the next week to come.

City Council

In their most recent meeting (Tuesday, February 9) Mayor Beaty and the Council discussed the classification specification of Beaverton city manager and identified and named key components and criteria to be considered for the related marketing brochure in hiring a city manager.

They also discussed affordable housing, racial equity, economic development, and more.

Coming up in their next public meeting (Tuesday, February 16):

The community is invited to watch next week as Mayor and Council get a preview of, and discuss, issues of interest to the City in the 2021 Oregon legislative session.

City Manager Update

The search process for the position has begun, which follows Interim City Manager appointment last year and includes hiring of an external search firm for facilitation support, engagement and opportunities for feedback.

Initial plans call for the competitive process to begin in March. A decision by City Council is expected to be announced in early-summer.

The City Manager is Council-appointed and oversees most city operations, departments and the budget. This person assists the Mayor and City Council with putting the city’s vision, priorities and directives into action.

Opportunities to Apply

On January 12, 2021, the Beaverton City Council called for a Special Election on May 18, 2021, to fill the vacant Council seat (Position 1). This position is elected at-large, to fill a partial term of office that expires December 31, 2022.
A Candidate’s Filing Handbook, containing instructions and forms to run for Council, will be available beginning February 6, 2021, on the City’s website.

The filing deadline is: Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.
