Western Avenue Work Expected to Begin in May

Work along Western Avenue to improve transportation, safety and pedestrian experiences will soon begin. Permanent improvements in the West Five Employment District, the city’s largest industrial and employment area, include bike boulevards, bike lanes and sidewalks along the entire length of Western Avenue from Allen Boulevard to Beaverton Hillsdale Highway.

Construction is expected to begin in May. Traffic impacts and detours should be expected during the project as work proceeds.

Improvements will also include construction for a section of 48-inch waterline, known as MPE 1.1, for the Willamette Water Supply System — a new resilient water source that will be complete in 2026 and will be used to meet the region’s existing and future water demands. This is part of the larger water supply system program that will deliver drinking water from intake facilities in Wilsonville and the new water treatment plant in Sherwood to Hillsboro, Beaverton and the Tualatin Valley Water District.
